National Basketball League Team Logos
The National Basketball League operated from 1937 through 1949 and featured dozens of professional basketball teams throughout the United States. Many NBL franchises disappeared long ago, while others eventually became part of today's NBA. This archive features historic logos from teams that competed in the NBL.
Several modern NBA franchises can trace their histories directly to NBL teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers.
From the NBL to Today's NBA
Although most National Basketball League franchises eventually disappeared, several organizations survived and became part of the modern NBA. The Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons became the Detroit Pistons, the Rochester Royals eventually became the Sacramento Kings, the Detroit Gems became the Minneapolis and later Los Angeles Lakers, and the Tri-Cities Blackhawks developed into today's Atlanta Hawks.
The Syracuse Nationals, another major NBL franchise, later became the Philadelphia 76ers. These surviving organizations provide a direct link between the National Basketball League and professional basketball today.
