The list preserves the referee names and uniform numbers recorded
in the NBAHoopsOnline historical archive.
The 2008-09 officiating staff included veteran officials such as
Dick Bavetta, Joe Crawford, Steve Javie, Dan Crawford, Bennett
Salvatore and Eddie F. Rush, along with Scott Foster, Tony Brothers,
Monty McCutchen, Marc Davis, Zach Zarba, Courtney Kirkland and
other officials who would continue into later NBA seasons.

About the 2008-09 Officials
The 2008-09 NBA officiating staff combined a large group of
experienced referees with officials who would become familiar
figures during the following decade. Dick Bavetta (#27), Joe
Crawford (#17), Steve Javie (#29), Dan Crawford (#43), Bennett
Salvatore (#15) and Eddie F. Rush (#32) were among the veteran
officials on the season's roster.
The staff also included Scott Foster (#48), Tony Brothers (#25),
Monty McCutchen (#13), Marc Davis (#34), Bill Kennedy (#55),
Zach Zarba (#58), Courtney Kirkland (#61), Ed Malloy (#73),
John Goble (#67), Brian Forte (#62) and Pat Fraher (#52).
Curtis Blair appears as #74 and Eric Dalen as #75 on the
2008-09 list. Haywood Workman, a former NBA player who later
became an NBA referee, is listed as #66. Violet Palmer continued
to officiate as #12, while another former NBA player, Leon Wood,
appears as #40.
Preserving referee rosters season by season is important because
both the composition of the officiating staff and the uniform
numbers assigned to individual referees changed over time. These
annual records can help identify officials in historical box
scores, photographs, broadcasts and other NBA research.
Names and uniform numbers are preserved from the NBAHoopsOnline
2008-09 referee archive. Number gaps have intentionally not been
filled with officials from other seasons.
