What Is a 5x5?
A 5x5 is one of basketball's rarest statistical
accomplishments. To record a 5x5, a player must finish a game with at
least five points, five rebounds, five assists, five blocks and five
steals.
Records before 1992 are incomplete. If you have information about a
5x5 that occurred before 1990, please email

5x5 Notes and Records
-
List of players who have recorded 8+ in four of the five statistical categories.
-
Blocks and steals were not kept before 1972.
-
Wilt Chamberlain's 1968 5x5 is not official because steals and blocks
were not recorded. It is likely that he recorded several more 5x5s, as
he is listed with five unofficial
quadruple-doubles.
-
Mike Gale and Julius Erving accomplished the first 5x5s in basketball
history while playing in the American Basketball Association. While
they are listed here, they are not officially counted as NBA 5x5s.
-
No bench player has ever recorded a 5x5.
-
Draymond Green nearly recorded another 5x5 but came up one point short.
-
The most minutes played in a 5x5 is 53 by Hakeem Olajuwon. The fewest
minutes played in a 5x5 is 34 by Marcus Camby.
-
The shortest period between two 5x5 performances is seven days,
accomplished by Andrei Kirilenko in December 2003.
-
The only players with multiple 5x5s are Julius Erving (2),
Victor Wembanyama (2), Andrei Kirilenko (3) and
Hakeem Olajuwon (6).
The Rarity of the NBA 5x5
The 5x5 is rare because it requires a player to contribute in virtually
every part of the game. Scoring and rebounding are common statistical
categories, but reaching five assists, five steals and five blocked
shots in the same game makes the accomplishment extraordinarily
difficult.
Hakeem Olajuwon appears on this list more often than any other player
with six 5x5 performances. Andrei Kirilenko recorded three, while
Julius Erving and Victor Wembanyama each recorded two.
