2025 NBA ALL-STAR TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP
SHAQ'S OGs 41 - CHUCK'S GLOBAL STARS 25
Stephen Curry: 20 Points Across Two Games
Kobe Bryant All-Star MVP Award: Stephen Curry
2025 NBA All-Star Game Recap
The 74th NBA All-Star Game took place on February 16, 2025, at Chase Center in San Francisco, California. For the first time in league history, the NBA replaced its traditional single All-Star Game with a four-team, three-game tournament. Shaq's OGs defeated Chuck's Global Stars 41-25 in the championship game, and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry won the Kobe Bryant NBA All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award in front of his home fans.
The tournament represented one of the most dramatic format changes in NBA All-Star history. Instead of a single game featuring the Eastern and Western Conferences, the league divided its All-Stars into three teams selected by TNT analysts Shaquille O'Neal, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith. A fourth team, coached in an honorary capacity by Candace Parker, consisted of the winners of the Rising Stars competition.
Each tournament game was played without a traditional game clock. The first team to reach or exceed 40 points won, with the winners of two semifinal games advancing to the championship. The format was introduced in an effort to encourage more competitive basketball after several years of unusually high-scoring exhibitions.
O'Neal selected a veteran-heavy roster featuring Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Damian Lillard, James Harden and Anthony Davis. Injuries later changed the roster, with Kyrie Irving replacing Davis. James also withdrew shortly before the tournament because of lingering foot and ankle discomfort.
Barkley's Global Stars featured an international group of players led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Karl-Anthony Towns, Donovan Mitchell, Pascal Siakam and Alperen Sengun. Trae Young joined the roster as an injury replacement for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Kenny's Young Stars featured rising NBA standouts such as Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson, Cade Cunningham, Evan Mobley, Darius Garland, Tyler Herro, Jalen Williams and Jaren Jackson Jr. Edwards was unable to participate because of a groin injury.
The fourth team, Candace's Rising Stars, qualified by winning the Rising Stars tournament on February 14. Its roster included Stephon Castle, Dalton Knecht, Keyonte George, Zach Edey, Jaylen Wells, Ryan Dunn, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Amen Thompson.
The first semifinal featured Chuck's Global Stars against Kenny's Young Stars. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 12 points, including the winning basket, as the Global Stars advanced with a 41-32 victory. Wembanyama and Towns each contributed six points. Garland, Herro and Mobley each scored six for the Young Stars.
The second semifinal matched Shaq's OGs against Candace's Rising Stars. The younger team proved surprisingly competitive, exchanging leads with the veteran squad throughout the game. Lillard scored nine points, including the winning three-pointer, as Shaq's OGs escaped with a 42-35 victory.
Curry contributed eight points and six rebounds in the semifinal, while Brown added eight points and Tatum scored six. For the Rising Stars, Knecht and Dunn each scored eight points, demonstrating that the younger players could compete against established All-Stars.
The championship game brought together Shaq's OGs and Chuck's Global Stars. Curry immediately set the tone by making a three-pointer to open the scoring. The OGs raced to an 11-0 lead as the Global Stars missed their first 10 field goal attempts.
Curry continued his long-range shooting display, making four three-pointers in the final, including a spectacular shot from near half court. The Chase Center crowd responded enthusiastically as its longtime Warriors star led the veteran squad toward the tournament championship.
Tatum led Shaq's OGs with 15 points in the final, making six of seven field goal attempts and three of four three-pointers. Curry added 12 points and four rebounds, while the team's defense limited Chuck's Global Stars to 25 points.
Wembanyama led the Global Stars with 11 points in the championship game, but his team never recovered from the slow start. Shaq's OGs reached the 40-point target first and won 41-25.
Across the two tournament games, Curry scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and recorded three assists. His combination of scoring, rebounding and leadership earned him his second All-Star MVP award, following his first in 2022.
The tournament also marked the first time Curry won All-Star MVP honors in the arena where he played his home games. The Warriors had moved into Chase Center in 2019, and the 2025 event was the first NBA All-Star Game held at the building.
San Francisco's hosting of the event continued a long history of All-Star basketball in the Bay Area. The region previously hosted the game in 1967 at the Cow Palace in Daly City and in 2000 at Oakland Arena.
The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is remembered for its experimental tournament format, Curry's hometown MVP performance, the participation of a Rising Stars team and the championship victory by Shaq's veteran roster.
