Robinson's Quadruple-Double
A quadruple-double requires a player to reach double figures in four of the five major statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots.
Robinson reached double figures in points, rebounds, assists and blocks, finishing with 34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 blocked shots.
His 10th block completed the quadruple-double. Robinson also recorded two steals, meaning his complete line included production in all five major categories.
Even more remarkably, Robinson committed only one turnover while handing out 10 assists and playing 43 minutes.
Dominance on Both Ends
Robinson's 34 points were the most scored by any San Antonio player and the most by either team's starters. He made 12 of his 20 field-goal attempts, shooting 60 percent from the floor.
Defensively, Robinson blocked 10 of Detroit's shots. The rest of the Spurs combined for only three blocks, meaning Robinson accounted for 10 of San Antonio's 13 blocked shots.
Detroit as a team recorded only one block. Robinson therefore blocked 10 times as many shots as the entire Pistons roster.
His 10 assists also led all players in the game. Robinson was simultaneously San Antonio's leading scorer, leading passer and leading shot blocker.
Rodman Grabs 22 Rebounds
Robinson's quadruple-double was not the only unusual statistical performance by a Spurs player that night.
Dennis Rodman scored only one point but dominated the glass with 22 rebounds, including 18 defensive rebounds. Rodman also handed out five assists in 42 minutes.
Robinson and Rodman combined for 32 rebounds as San Antonio finished with 48 rebounds as a team.
San Antonio Pulls Away
The game was competitive through the first half. San Antonio led 22-20 after the first quarter and held a narrow 50-47 advantage at halftime.
The Spurs began to take control in the third quarter, outscoring Detroit 31-21 to build an 81-68 lead. San Antonio then scored 34 points in the fourth quarter to finish the 115-96 victory.
The Spurs shot 44-for-83 from the field and recorded 31 assists on their 44 made baskets. They also finished with 13 blocked shots and committed only seven turnovers.
Detroit's Top Performers
Rookie Lindsey Hunter led Detroit with 26 points while adding seven rebounds and two steals. Sean Elliott, playing against the team with which he had spent his first four NBA seasons, scored 20 points in 44 minutes.
Terry Mills added 18 points and 16 rebounds before fouling out, while Allan Houston scored 10 points.
Detroit was held to nine assists as a team compared with San Antonio's 31.
One of Robinson's Greatest Seasons
The quadruple-double came during the remarkable 1993-94 season in which Robinson was producing some of the biggest statistical games of his career.
Just eight days earlier, on February 8, Robinson had recorded 31 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists and seven blocks against Washington, narrowly missing another quadruple-double.
Earlier in the season, on November 9, 1993, Robinson had produced 43 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks against Minnesota. His February performance against Detroit finally brought all four categories together in double figures.
Later that season, Robinson would close the regular season with another historic performance, scoring 71 points against the Los Angeles Clippers on April 24, 1994.

NBA Quadruple-Double History
Quadruple-doubles are among the rarest officially recognized statistical achievements in NBA history. They require a player to reach double figures in four different major statistical categories during the same game.
Robinson's performance joined a very small group of officially recognized quadruple-doubles. His combination of scoring, rebounding, passing and shot blocking demonstrated the unusual versatility that made him one of the NBA's premier centers.
NBAHoopsOnline also preserves Hakeem Olajuwon's March 29, 1990 quadruple-double, when Olajuwon recorded 18 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists and 11 blocks against Milwaukee.
