2004-05 NBA Referees and Officials

Complete list of NBA referees and their uniform numbers for the 2004-05 NBA season.

The following officials worked during the 2004-05 NBA season. The list preserves the referee uniform numbers recorded in the NBAHoopsOnline historical archive.

The officiating staff combined veteran officials such as Dick Bavetta, Joe Crawford, Jess Kersey and Steve Javie with a large group of referees who would continue working NBA games well into the following decades. Because referee numbers could change from one season to another, each season is preserved separately.

About the 2004-05 Officials

The 2004-05 NBA referee roster provides a useful snapshot of the league's officiating staff during the first season of the Charlotte Bobcats and the NBA's return to a 30-team league. The referee list included experienced officials from earlier eras as well as many officials whose careers continued through later generations of NBA basketball.

Among the veteran officials were Dick Bavetta (#27), Steve Javie (#29), Joe Crawford (#17), Jess Kersey (#20), Dan Crawford (#43) and Bennett Salvatore (#15). The roster also included Scott Foster (#48), Tony Brothers (#25), Monty McCutchen (#13), Courtney Kirkland (#61), Marc Davis (#34), Zach Zarba (#58) and Ed Malloy (#73).

This season also demonstrates why referee uniform numbers are best documented year by year. Several officials appear under different numbers than they did during the preceding 2003-04 season, making the individual season records useful for identifying officials in historic photographs, broadcasts and box-score research.

Names and uniform numbers are preserved according to the NBAHoopsOnline 2004-05 referee archive.
