2004 NBA Slam Dunk Contest History
The 2004 NBA Slam Dunk Contest took place on February 14, 2004, during NBA All-Star Weekend at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. The competition featured four players: Indiana Pacers guard Fred Jones, Golden State Warriors guard Jason Richardson, Denver Nuggets forward Chris Andersen and Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ricky Davis.
Richardson entered the event as the two-time defending champion, having won the competition in 2002 and 2003. He was attempting to become the first player in NBA history to win three consecutive Slam Dunk Contest championships.
Fred Jones emerged as the winner, defeating Richardson in the final round. His victory gave the Indiana Pacers their first Slam Dunk Contest championship and ended Richardson's attempt at a three-peat.
The following gallery preserves photographs from the original NBAHoopsOnline archive, including Richardson's spectacular dunks, Jones' championship celebration and Chris Andersen's memorable appearance.
