NBA All-Star Selections by Franchise
The NBA All-Star Game has showcased the league's top players since 1951. Over the decades, some franchises have consistently produced All-Stars, while newer teams have had fewer opportunities to accumulate selections.
The following table compares the number of All-Star selections credited to each NBA franchise throughout its history with the number credited since 2000.
Each All-Star selection counts separately. For example, a player selected to five All-Star Games contributes five selections to his team's total, assuming all five selections occurred while he represented that franchise.
Historical franchise continuity: These totals are presented under current team names, with historical franchise names discussed below. The figures are retained from the original NBAHoopsOnline archive and have not been independently recalculated through the 2026 All-Star Game.

All-Star Selections Since 2000
The since-2000 column provides a look at more recent All-Star representation. According to the original figures, the Boston Celtics lead this category with 39 selections, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers with 37 and the Miami Heat with 36.
The San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder each have 30 selections in the original archive. Cleveland follows with 26, while Houston and Toronto each have 25.
These figures illustrate how franchise success and star-player longevity can influence All-Star totals. They also show how teams established more recently can accumulate a substantial number of selections over a shorter period.
Understanding Historical Franchise Names
NBA franchises have relocated and changed names throughout league history. When comparing All-Star selections, it is important to distinguish a franchise's continuous history from the history of an individual city or team name.
Examples of franchise name changes:
- Atlanta Hawks: Tri-Cities Blackhawks, Milwaukee Hawks, St. Louis Hawks, and Atlanta Hawks.
- Brooklyn Nets: New York Nets, New Jersey Nets, and Brooklyn Nets, with earlier ABA history.
- Detroit Pistons: Fort Wayne Pistons and Detroit Pistons.
- Golden State Warriors: Philadelphia Warriors, San Francisco Warriors, and Golden State Warriors.
- Los Angeles Lakers: Minneapolis Lakers and Los Angeles Lakers.
- Oklahoma City Thunder: Seattle SuperSonics and Oklahoma City Thunder.
- Philadelphia 76ers: Syracuse Nationals and Philadelphia 76ers.
- Sacramento Kings: Rochester Royals, Cincinnati Royals, Kansas City-Omaha Kings, Kansas City Kings, and Sacramento Kings.
- Utah Jazz: New Orleans Jazz and Utah Jazz.
- Washington Wizards: Chicago Packers, Chicago Zephyrs, Baltimore Bullets, Capital Bullets, Washington Bullets, and Washington Wizards.
The Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans have a more complicated shared history. NBA historical records recognize the current Charlotte Hornets as holding the original Charlotte Hornets' 1988–2002 history, while the Pelicans franchise history begins in 2002. The totals above reproduce the original archive and should be reviewed against these official historical assignments before recalculation.
How All-Star Selections Are Counted
All-Time Selections: The total number of NBA All-Star selections attributed to the franchise in the original archive.
Selections Since 2000: The number of selections attributed to the franchise beginning with the 2000 NBA All-Star Game, according to the original archive.
Selections vs. unique players: The figures represent selections, not the number of different players. A player selected in multiple seasons contributes multiple selections.
Missed All-Star Games: A player may receive an official All-Star selection but miss the game because of injury or another circumstance. Selection totals can therefore differ from actual games played.
Historical scope: These figures cover NBA All-Star selections. ABA All-Star selections are a separate historical category.
The source page does not state a final update year for its totals. The table is therefore presented as a preserved historical snapshot, not a newly verified 2026 ranking.
