The Missouri Valley Conference is one of the oldest conferences in
college athletics. The men's postseason basketball tournament began in
1977 and is now widely known as Arch Madness.
The conference's women's tournament history is recognized beginning
with the Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference era. The first women's
tournament was held in 1983, and those historical results are maintained
as part of the Missouri Valley Conference record book.

Missouri State left the MVC after the 2024-25 season. Creighton,
Wichita State and Eastern Illinois are also former conference members.
The 2020 Missouri Valley Conference women's basketball tournament was
canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The men's tournament had
already been completed, with Bradley winning the championship.
Recent Missouri Valley Champions
2023: Drake won both the men's and women's tournaments.
2024: Drake again swept the men's and women's MVC
tournament championships.
2025: Drake won its third consecutive men's tournament
title, while Murray State won the women's championship.
2026: Northern Iowa won the men's Arch Madness title,
while Murray State repeated as the women's tournament champion.
