NCAA Tournament Triple-Double History
Triple-doubles are extremely rare in the NCAA Tournament. Only
10 official triple-doubles have been recorded in
men's March Madness history through the 2026 tournament.
Every triple-double on the list includes points and rebounds, with
either assists or blocked shots serving as the third statistical
category.
Gary Grant of Michigan recorded the first official
NCAA Tournament triple-double in 1987. Marcus Domask
of Illinois became the most recent player to accomplish the feat in
2024.

Gary Grant recorded the first official men's NCAA
Tournament triple-double in 1987 with 24 points, 10 rebounds and
10 assists for Michigan against North Carolina.

Draymond Green is the only player to record two
triple-doubles in men's NCAA Tournament history. He accomplished the
feat for Michigan State in both 2011 and 2012.

Shaquille O'Neal and Cole Aldrich
are the only players on the list whose third double-digit category
was blocked shots.

O'Neal recorded 11 blocks against BYU in 1992, while Aldrich blocked
10 shots against Dayton in 2009.

Triple-Doubles in the Elite Eight
The deepest round of the men's NCAA Tournament in which a triple-double
has been recorded is the Elite Eight.
Utah guard Andre Miller recorded 18 points,
14 rebounds and 13 assists against Arizona in 1998.
Five years later, Dwyane Wade produced one of the
most famous performances in Marquette history, recording 29 points,
11 rebounds and 11 assists against Kentucky to send the Golden Eagles
to the 2003 Final Four.
No player has recorded a triple-double in a men's NCAA Tournament
Final Four or national championship game.
How Rare Is an NCAA Tournament Triple-Double?
The men's NCAA Tournament has been played since 1939, yet only
10 official triple-doubles have been recorded through 2026.
There was a five-year gap between Ja Morant's performance in 2019
and Marcus Domask's triple-double in 2024. Before Morant, no player
had recorded one since Draymond Green in 2012.
The rarity of the accomplishment reflects the difficulty of reaching
double figures in three statistical categories while playing against
NCAA Tournament competition and often in a single-elimination setting.
