Ivy League Championship History
The Ivy League began sponsoring men's basketball competition during
the 1955-56 season. For most of the league's history, the regular-season
champion earned the conference's automatic NCAA Tournament berth.
Beginning with the 2016-17 season, the Ivy League added
a postseason tournament, commonly known as Ivy Madness.
The regular-season championship remains a separate league title, while
the tournament champion receives the conference's automatic NCAA
Tournament bid.
The 2020 Ivy League Tournament was canceled, and the league did not
play a 2020-21 basketball season.

Recent Ivy League Notes
2018-19: Harvard and Yale tied for the regular-season
championship with 10-4 conference records. Yale then defeated Harvard
97-85 to win the Ivy League Tournament.
2019-20: Yale finished 11-3 in conference play to win
the regular-season championship. The postseason tournament was canceled.
2020-21: The Ivy League did not conduct a men's
basketball season.
2021-22: Princeton won the regular-season title at
12-2, while Yale won the Ivy League Tournament.
2022-23: Princeton and Yale shared the regular-season
championship. Princeton won Ivy Madness.
2023-24: Princeton won the regular-season title with
a 12-2 league record, while Yale defeated Brown 62-61 to win the
tournament.
2024-25: Yale won the outright regular-season title
with a 13-1 conference record and then defeated Cornell 90-84 to win
a second consecutive Ivy Madness championship.
2025-26: Yale won the outright regular-season title
at 11-3. Penn defeated Yale 88-84 in overtime to win its first Ivy
League Tournament championship since 2018.
