No Nugget Scores in Double Figures — March 6, 2004

The Detroit Pistons defeated the Denver Nuggets 97-66 at the Pepsi Center in one of the strangest offensive box scores in Denver history. Not a single Nuggets player reached double figures, and eight Denver players tied for the team lead with exactly 8 points.

Eight Players Tie for Denver's Scoring Lead

On March 6, 2004, the defending Eastern Conference finalist Detroit Pistons overwhelmed the Denver Nuggets 97-66 at the Pepsi Center. The 31-point loss was memorable for an extremely unusual reason: Denver played 12 players and not one of them scored 10 points.

Even more remarkably, eight different Nuggets tied for the team scoring lead with exactly 8 points. Voshon Lenard, Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby, Earl Boykins, Rodney White and Jon Barry each scored 8, joining Andre Miller and the rest of a Denver offense that never established a primary scorer.

Detroit broke open a tied game in the second quarter, outscoring Denver 35-16. The Pistons then held the Nuggets to only 10 points in the third quarter, extending the lead to 75-47 before finishing off the 97-66 victory.

Rasheed Wallace led Detroit with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Corliss Williamson scored 14 points off the bench, Lindsey Hunter added 13, and Tayshaun Prince finished with 11. Chauncey Billups scored only 2 points but distributed 13 assists.

Why This Box Score Is Unusual

Denver's scoring distribution is what makes this game worthy of preservation. The Nuggets scored only 66 points, and no individual player reached double figures.

Six Nuggets — Voshon Lenard, Carmelo Anthony, Marcus Camby, Earl Boykins, Rodney White and Jon Barry — each finished with 8 points. Andre Miller scored 6, Nenê had 5, Chris Andersen scored 4, Francisco Elson had 3, and Nikoloz Tskitishvili and Michael Doleac were held scoreless.

Carmelo Anthony, Denver's leading scorer during his rookie season, endured an especially difficult night. He made only 3 of 17 field-goal attempts and finished with 8 points. Marcus Camby also scored 8 but collected a team-high 10 rebounds.

Detroit's defense held Denver to 26 field goals on 81 attempts, a 32.1 percent shooting performance. The Pistons also dominated the paint 60-18 and outrebounded Denver 56-37.
