About the NBDL Allocation System
The National Basketball Development League began play in 2001 with
eight teams. Before the inaugural season, players were distributed
among the clubs through an allocation process designed to help build
the league's first rosters.
The historical lists below preserve the player names, positions,
heights, schools and previous levels of competition that appeared in
NBAHoopsOnline's original NBDL records.
Team abbreviations are preserved from the original records:
ASH (Asheville),
COL (Columbus),
FAY (Fayetteville),
GRE (Greenville),
HUN (Huntsville),
MOB (Mobile),
NCL (North Charleston) and
ROA (Roanoke).

Historical Notes
Among the players in these early allocation lists,
Jamario Moon later reached the NBA after a lengthy
minor-league and international journey, while
Cory Alexander entered the NBDL allocation process
with previous NBA experience.
These allocation rosters should not be confused with later
NBA assignments, in which an NBA-contracted player
is temporarily sent to a development-league affiliate while remaining
under contract with his NBA team.
Historical team abbreviations, league names and roster classifications
are retained to reflect the terminology used at the time.
