Understanding the Numbers
Draft position can play a major role in the direction of an NBA franchise.
Teams selecting near the top of the draft have access to some of the most
highly regarded prospects entering the league, although a high selection
does not guarantee future success.
The table below separates each franchise's selections into three categories.
Top 10 counts selections made with picks 1 through 10,
Top 5 counts selections made with picks 1 through 5, and
Top 3 counts selections made with picks 1 through 3.
The Top 5 and Top 3 figures are therefore included within the larger Top 10 total.

Notes
The figures on this page represent the NBAHoopsOnline historical dataset
and are presented as franchise totals. Because franchises can relocate,
change names, trade draft selections or acquire players on draft night,
draft-history totals can be defined differently depending on the methodology
used.
This page preserves the existing NBAHoopsOnline values rather than
recalculating the historical totals.
