Longest 50-Win Streaks
Winning 50 games has traditionally been one of the clearest
benchmarks of an elite NBA regular season. Reaching that mark year
after year is considerably more difficult. Injuries, roster turnover,
aging stars, coaching changes and the NBA's competitive cycle make
long runs of 50-win seasons uncommon.
The San Antonio Spurs hold the NBA record with 18
consecutive 50-win seasons, beginning with the 1999-2000
season and continuing through 2016-17. The Los Angeles Lakers rank
second with 12 consecutive 50-win seasons, while the Dallas Mavericks
are third with 11.
The table below includes every streak of at least five consecutive
50-win seasons.

San Antonio Spurs — 18 Consecutive Seasons
The San Antonio Spurs established one of the most remarkable
regular-season consistency records in professional basketball by
winning at least 50 games in 18 consecutive seasons from
1999-2000 through 2016-17.
The streak covered nearly the entire Tim Duncan era and continued
for one season after Duncan retired. San Antonio won championships
in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014 during the streak and remained a
championship contender across several different versions of its
roster.
The Spurs won 61 games in 2016-17, the final season of the streak.
They finished 47-35 the following season, finally ending a run that
had lasted almost two decades.
The Lockout Season Exception
San Antonio's record requires one important historical note. The
1998-99 NBA season was shortened to 50 games because of the league
lockout, making 50 victories impossible for every team.
The Spurs went 37-13 during that shortened season,
a .740 winning percentage equivalent to roughly 61 wins over an
82-game schedule, and went on to win the NBA championship.
Because the season did not contain enough games for a team to reach
50 victories, the streak listed here begins with 1999-2000. In terms
of sustained winning percentage, however, San Antonio's run of elite
regular seasons extended through the lockout year.
Los Angeles Lakers — 12 Consecutive Seasons
Before San Antonio established the modern record, the Los Angeles
Lakers owned one of the league's great runs of sustained regular-season
success. The Lakers won at least 50 games in
12 consecutive seasons from 1979-80 through 1990-91.
That run began with Magic Johnson's rookie season and covered the
entire Showtime era. Los Angeles won five NBA championships during
the streak and reached the NBA Finals nine times.
Dallas Mavericks — 11 Consecutive Seasons
The Dallas Mavericks reached 50 victories in
11 consecutive seasons from 2000-01 through 2010-11.
The streak essentially spans Dirk Nowitzki's rise from young star to
NBA champion.
Dallas reached the NBA Finals twice during the run and ended the
11th consecutive 50-win season by winning the 2011 NBA championship.
The Mavericks went 57-25 that season before defeating Portland, the
Los Angeles Lakers, Oklahoma City and Miami in the playoffs.
Boston Celtics — Three Different Runs
The Boston Celtics are the only franchise represented three separate
times among the streaks of five or more consecutive 50-win seasons.
Their first great run lasted 10 seasons from 1958-59 through 1967-68
during the Bill Russell dynasty.
Boston followed with nine consecutive 50-win seasons from 1979-80
through 1987-88 during the Larry Bird era. The Celtics later added
five straight 50-win seasons from 1971-72 through 1975-76.
The franchise has now produced another five-season run. Boston won
51 games in 2021-22, 57 in 2022-23, 64 in 2023-24, 61 in 2024-25
and 56 in 2025-26.

2025-26 Season Update
Boston's streak survived the 2025-26 season with a 56-26 record,
extending its current run to five consecutive seasons with at least
50 victories.
Several other teams reached the 50-win mark in 2025-26 but have not
yet accumulated the five consecutive seasons required for this list.
Oklahoma City led the NBA with 64 victories, followed by San Antonio
with 62 and Detroit with 60. Denver won 54 games, while the Los
Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks each won 53. Cleveland and Houston
each finished with 52 victories.
Those teams will need to maintain their success for several more
seasons before challenging the longer streaks listed above.
About the Record
For this page, a qualifying season requires at least
50 regular-season victories. The streak ends when
a team completes a full-length season with fewer than 50 wins.
Playoff victories are not included.
Season ranges are displayed using the complete NBA season format.
For example, the Spurs entry shown as 1999-00 through 2016-17
corresponds to the years 2000 through 2017 in season-ending-year
notation.
