The Hawks have never officially retired Bob Pettits #9. The number is hanging in the arena and is out of circulation.
The Hawks retired number 59 jersey in honor of Reed who was the mayor of Atlanta from 2010 to 2018.
The NBA retired Bill Russell's No. 6 for all its member teams on August 11, 2022.
The #40 of Jason Collier is not officially retired but has been taken out of circulation. The Hawks did have a ceremony for Collier during the 2005 season. Collier died of a heart issue just prior to the 2005-06 season.
Excluding Bill Russell, who's number #6 is retired league wide. Pete Maravich is the only player to have their jersey retired by three teams. Maravich's #44 is retired by the Hawks, his #7 is retired by both the Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans.
