Championship Contenders

After a busy summer which saw some superstars making shocking moves, the start of the 2019/20 NBA campaign promised a super exciting battle for the throne. Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis, Paul George, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook are only some of the stars who swapped their shirts in between two seasons. After years of Golden State's dominance and a rather surprising title for Toronto Raptors in the previous campaign, we finally have diversity with the game's top players separated across several high-profile outfits.

Halfway through the season, we have taken a look at the standings with the NBA betting tips experts at tipping site bettingtips4you and provide our list of the main contenders to go all the way in the play-offs. Three teams kind of separated themselves from the others after 45 opening rounds of the regular season and we should probably look for the potential champion among them.

Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers have the best record on the West after 45 matches. The Anthony Davis trade instantly made the Lakers main favorites even before the start of the season. The team justified the tag so far in spite of times when AD had to skip certain matches through injury. Ever since he made his LA debut, Davis reasserted his place as a top-ten player in the league. He is probably the main candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year award, while his contribution at the other end of the floor has been almost equally impressive.

Nonetheless, LeBron James is the Lakers' MVP as he stepped up whenever Davis had a bad day or missed the game. We are probably looking at the best LeBron version since his time in Miami. He is a constant threat to all defenses in the league with the ball in his hands as Lakers finally have a talented group of players around the floor meaning LBJ can also prove is fabulous assisting skills. Davis and James are both averaging above 25.0 points per game. With such an extraordinary attacking talent as well as the fifth-best defensive rating in the entire league, we simply have to take the Lakers as the main title contenders at this point.

Milwaukee Bucks

Even though most experts are looking for the future champions on the West, nobody can underestimate the strength of Milwaukee Bucks. The team led by Giannis Antetokounmpo own the best record in the league halfway through the season. They have a legitimate opportunity to become only the third team in the competition's history to win at least 70 games in the regular season. They rank inside the top three in both defensive and offensive ratings and they are the most efficient team in the league. The Greek Freak is the main catalyst for such a phenomenal campaign. He is the true leader with 30.0 points and 12.9 rebounds on average. However, will he disappear the way he did in the last season's Eastern Conference finals when the Bucks lost four successive matches to the latter champions Toronto Raptors? Kawhi Leonard defeated Giannis back then and he is now in an even more talented team. Will the Greek Freak find the way to answer this time around? We are yet to get the answer but in the meantime, we have to consider Milwaukee as genuine contenders.

Los Angeles Clippers

We will close the list with the Los Angeles Clippers who have added two superstars to their squad this summer. While the team kept the scoring machine Lou Williams and a high-profile center Montrezl Harrell, there is no other outfit in the league that can match their talent at both ends of the floor. The Clippers look somewhat slow in the regular season, but we can definitely expect their best games in the play-offs. Kawhi Leonard turned on a beast mode to guide Toronto Raptors to the much-wanted title last season, while Paul George seems to be a perfect match for such a team. Even though the Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks left a better impression in the first half of the regular season, the Clippers are our No 1 title candidates.
