Jason Collier was born on September 8, 1977 to Jeff and Joyce Collier. He went to Georgia Tech, the school his father had attended and also played Basketball for. Collier wore his fathers number #40 in college and became an all American.
Jason Collier was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2000 NBA draft(#15th overall). He was then traded to the Houston Rockets where he played sparingly his rookie year. In his second year with the Rockets Collier played a little more but not much, his scoring did jump by one point per game. in his third season with the Rockets Collier hadly even got off the bench appearing in only 13 games in the 2002-03 season, three of which he did start. After three years with the Rockets Collier tried out for the Minnesota Timberwolves fall camp. Collier was unable to make the team, and joined the NBDL. midway thought the season Collier got a contract with the Atlanta Hawks. in his first season with the Hawks Collier got career highs in all his numbers including 11 points, and 6 rebounds per game. after the 2003-04 season Collier re-signed with the Hawks, but his number delcined 6 pionts and three rebounds. Collier however was the part time starting center for the Hawks having started in 44 of 70 games he played.
Jason Collier was in the midst of the preseason and his third season with the Atlanta Hawks when he suffered a massive heart attack and died. Collier was 28 years old and is survived by his wife Katie, their daughter Elezan, his Brother Jared, His sister Julie and his parents Jeff and Joyce Collier.
