66. Dwayne Wade
The 2003 NBA draft is one of the greatest and deepest drafts in NBA history, but of the plethora of stars selected only one has been able to lead his team to the NBA promised land of a title. That would be Dwayne Wade, who was a hot commodity this past summer as a free agent.
Wade attended Marquette University where he played two years and lead Marquette to the NCAA tournament both seasons. He entered the NBA draft after the 2003 season having played in 65 career games with averages of 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Miami Heat drafted Wade with the 5th pick in the 2003 Draft and he immediately became the new face of the franchise. He had a solid rookie season but injuries limited him to just 61 games where ha averaged a little over 16 points a game. Wade was able to lead the Heat to the NBA playoffs his rookie season where they stunned the Hornets to advance to the second round.
Wade really broke into NBA stardom his second year where he averaged 24 points a game and made his first all-star appearance. The Head also added Shaquille O’Neal in the off-season and looked like favorites to come out of the east, however they lost to the Pistons in the Eastern finals. The team was kept nearly intact for the next season and eventually ended up winning the NBA title.
The 2006 NBA finals saw Wade turn in a spectacular performance leading the Heat back from an 0-2 deficit to win the title. Wade also became a controversial figure for the finals because he shot an NBA record amount of free throws in the series.
The 2006 title was the high point for this Miami team, following the title the wheels came off and the team spiraled down hill. The Heat where knocked out of the playoffs in the first round of 2007, conversely so where the Dallas Mavericks marking the first time since 1951 that both teams who had been in the finals the season before where knocked out in the first round.
The 2007-08 season got even worse for Miami as Wade got injured and missed large portions of the season and O’Neal was traded. Wades scoring also fell from 27 the season before to 24 points a game in the 08 campaign and the Heat won just 15 games.
The 2008-09 season brought new changes to the Heat. Wade ended up averaging 30 points a game for the first time in his career which lead the league and the Heat once again made the playoffs.
The Heat became a playoff team for the next two season but were not a threat. The Head added MVP Lebron James and forward Chris Bosh in the 2010 off season and currently look like the front runner for the 2011 NBA title.
Wade has appeared in 471 career games and averages 25 points and nearly 7 assists a game. He is a likely hall of famer and his career is still very young and he will likely move up this list in the coming years.
