Las Vegas Day 5
Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3| Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7 | Day 8 |
The first game was between the red hot Nuggets and Bulls who were playing their first game. This game got out of hand early and the Nuggets were rolling. The Bulls turned the ball over like crazy which lead to a lot of Denver easy baskets.
The Bulls did make it closer in the end with a nice 4th quarter but this was generally a pretty lopsided game but it was actually a lot of fun to see the Nuggets score at will.
Ty Lawson dominated again. He didn’t look to pass as much but took good shots inside the offense. Again I have to question why he is here. He’s just going to be dominating the players in this league.
Lawrence Ekpergin had a nice game in limited minutes. I never heard of him before but I liked what I saw.
Brian Hamilton was good too, but not NBA caliber. He’s a big man who is too small.
James Johnson had a nice game for the Bulls. Played horrible defense and got a lot of fouls. Can shoot though.
John Lucuas III also had a nice game. He ran the offensive efficiently and didn’t turn the ball over much.
Morris Almond can shoot, but not much else.
Second game I watched was between the Cavs and D-League select team. There were a lot of angry Cavs fans at the game, still bitter over Lebron James leaving and they got even more bitter when they learned that Ilgauskas was leaving too. I felt sorry for them, but at least JJ Hickson had a good game to try and sooth their pain.
The game was pretty good. Neither team lead by very much and both teams battled pretty hard. Turnovers where at a minimum and shooting pretty good. The game had a good finish with the Cavs scoring 5 points down the stretch to seal the win.
JJ Hickson had a very good game, but than again most guys who have seen regular minutes in the NBA do tend to have good games in summer league. Hickson is athletic and had a good NBA body.
Christian Eyenga, the Cavs first round pick in 2009 played pretty well too. He is raw though but has some freaky athleticism and can get up there to block shots.
Pooh Jetter ran the offense really well and can make some difficult passes if he needs to. Does try to get too fancy with the ball though.
Russell Robinson was the best for the D-league team. Good ball handler and can run the offense but doesn’t make good decisions when pressed hard.
Mark Tyndale played well too. Nice shot selection and very scrappy.
The Bucks and Grizzlies was a terribly boring game which ended fantastically. Both teams played like crap for long stretches of the game. The Grizzlies scored 9 points in the first quarter and Bucks got only 7 in the second quarter. Offenses where stagnant and the only scoring came because of fouls, and there were a lot of those.
The Grizzlies did have a nice record quarter to climb back into the game, but looked doomed after another bad quarter in the third. But with the game tied near the end of regulation Sam Young hit a game winning three for the Grizzlies.
Deron Washington was clutch again for the Bucks. He did struggle a lot more in this game than the last but played pretty well overall.
Larry Sanders got the butterflies out of his system and had himself a great game. He has some nice post moves and can get difficult shots to go.
Tiny Gallon quietly have a very nice night. He had 11 rebounds but did struggling turning the ball over some.
Sam Young did well for the Grizzlies. Played some hard defense and was able to get to the line and of course hit the game winner.
I thought OJ Mayo was just terrible. He was a turnover machine and took a couple of really bad shots.
I also heard that Xavier Henry, who did not play, is having a contract dispute with the Grizzlies. I don’t know how that is possible with the rookie pay scale structure but that’s just what I heard.
Last game I seen was another good one between Miami and Golden State. The game was close through out and had some fluid play. There were a lot of ill advised shots taken but it really wasn’t bogged down by bad play like several other games had been.
Both teams did blow double figure leads however and some players tried too hard I thought. Miami had a good third quarter but the Warriors came back to win.
I have been singing Kim Tillie’s praises the past few games but he really struggled tonight. Had some good rebounds but the bigger guys kept him out of the paint and he couldn’t adjust his shot to compensate.
I have been harsh on Reggie Williams and he had a very nice game tonight. He still took bad shots but not as many of them and did pass a lot more than I have seen him pass before.
The Heat had ball handling problems again, especially Patrick Beverly who had like 8 turnovers. In fact he had a pretty bad game overall. Nothing he did really impressed me.
