Las Vegas Day 4

Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3| Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7 | Day 8 |

First I have to complain, this duel venue stuff sucks! I want to see all the games but can’t because I don’t want to have to run down the road in 110 degree weather. I’ve heard some team official complaining about this as well. Too many teams here and it’s hard to get everyone sufficient minutes.

Ok now that my crankiness is over on to the games. First game was Lakers and Knicks and it looked like a high school game more than a NBA summer league game. A lot of Laker fans here though, kind of annoying really.

The first half was abysmal. It was 32-24 at the half, that is like a first quarter score in many of those games. The second quarter was one of the worst quarters of basketball I have ever seen played.

Finally in the second half things picked up. The Knicks got some steals and made easy shots. The Lakers took the lead at like 46-45 than the Knicks scored about 15 straight points to blow this game open. Lakers made it closer than it was in the end though.

Derrick Caracter continues to impress. I seen him next to some other players and he isn’t actually as big as he played. He’s like 6’8 but plays like he’s 6’11. I really think the Lakers not only found someone who can make their roster but someone who can make their rotation. He could be a steal for them.

Gerald Green was impressive in the second half, he really tried to get the Lakers back into the game but his teammates hindered him. Much better defender than I remembered, maybe it’s just the inferior talent. Still he had a good showing.

Devin Ebanks had a pretty bad game today. Poor ball control really got him into trouble a lot.

Landry Field was very good for the Knicks. He is kind of like a Lamar Odom type player in that he’s very versatile.

Tony Douglas had an ever better night tonight than last night though stats wont show that. He ran the offense and was able to act as a floor general. When he was looking to run the offense he gave the Lakers problems I was really impressed from what I saw from him.

Andy Rautins sucked again. Took bad shots and played no defense, and was totally outplayed by teammate Jaycee Carroll who is competing for the same roll on the Knicks.

The second game I caught was the Spurs and Wolves. The game was pretty boring and both teams played like crap. I sat next to some Wolves guys and they were talking to another team about trading Al Jefferson. That’s all I know about that.

The game was close until the 4th, though I didn’t stay and watch the 4th quarter. Turnovers were ridiculous though. Both ball handlers for both teams were terribly lazy with their passes.

Garrett Temple did a decent job at times for the Spurs, but he telegraphs his passes.

Alonzo Gee was very good for the Spurs. Very active and well rounded player. Took some poor shots but overall was pretty good.

Wesley Johnson was solid for the Wolves. He let the game come to him and played well, not spectacular but just well.

Jeremy Pargo did a terrible job running the offense. He made a lot of bad passes and could not use his picks.

The final game I attended had the best finish I have ever seen in a summer league game, and I am not just saying that because I am a Mavs fan and the Mavs won in dramatic fashion. I am saying that because it was an awesome fun game for the last 2 minutes of regulation and overtime.

The Mavs where up five with a little over a minute remaining when the Bucks came back. Darnell Jackson had a three point play and Deron Washington had a nice lay in. The Bucks went up two after Jackson missed a three and Washington put it back with three tenths of a second remaining. The Mavs came back with an ally-oop and in Derek Fisher fashion JR Giddens tipped it in to send it to OT.

In the extra period the teams once again stayed close and Deron Washington put the Bucks up for what seemed like good, but Roddy Beaubois hit the game winning jumper to give the Mavs the win.

JR Giddens finally had a good game. He shot the ball really well made no turnovers and played nice defense. He’s still a bit selfish though.

Roddy Beaubois was awesome. The offensive is being geared about him and he’s responding. He still has trouble with turnovers and shot the ball poorly early on but got better as the game progressed.

Deron Washington is clutch. He hit about 3 big shots for the Bucks and boxed out really well.

Darnell Jackson had a good game too. He’s really big almost bordering on fat. But he is strong down low and has decent range on his jumper.

Larry Sanders struggled at times but ended up having a good game. It was definitely jitters which got to him.
