The Suns would enjoy the first half of the 80s, as the team was always good, and usually a contender. and they had alot of success during the draft, drafting guys like Larry Nance, and Jeff Hornacek. in 1987 Jerry Colangelo purchases Suns for $44.5 million. but in 1988 the Suns suffered a horride season, only winning 28 games. but the next season they did a major turn around. by winning 55.
In November of 1990 the Suns, and the Utah Jazz played the first NBA regular season game outside of North America, the Suns defeated the Jazz in the first game, but lost in the second game.
In 1992 the Suns traded Hornacek and 2 others to Philadelphia for Charles Barkley. Barkley would go on to win MVP that year, and lead the Suns back to the NBA finals, which they lost in 6 to Micheal Jordan and the Bulls.
The Suns would finish out the 90's having a winning season every year, and acquiring guys in the draft like Steve Nash, and Micheal Finley, and by trading for people like Sam Cassell, Jason Kidd, and Antonio McDyess, and by signing guys like Cliff Robinson, Tom Gugliotta, and Penny Hardaway.
in 2001 the Suns traded Jason Kidd to New Jersey for Stephon Marbury. but in 2002 the Suns would miss the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. later that year the Suns would draft Amare Stoudamire, who would go on to win rookie of the year honors.
