Gerry Archibald was the owner/general manager/coach/player of his own team originating in Warren, Pennsylvania. He started the team a number of years before the NBL came into being. In 1936 he entered the team in the Midwest Basketball Conference with sponsorship from Hyvis Oil and became a charter member of the NBL in 37-38. In the middle of the 38-39 season, he secured the sponsorship of White Horse Motors and moved the team to Cleveland on February 10, 1939. The team also competed in the NY-Penn League under the name of Elmira Colonels winning that league's title in 1939.
The next year Gerry moved the team again, this time to Detroit and they became the Eagles. Archibald partnered with Jake Mazer as co-owner and co-coach. The following season in 1941 Archibald sold his shares in the Eagles.
Archibald's dad, Lyman Archibald was a member of Naismith's original basketball team.
