Top 5 All Time Playoff Scorers In NBA History

The NBA Playoffs are nearly here and there is history about to be made.

It’s no secret that the NBA has some of the greatest and fittest athletes in the sporting world. These individuals are fast, big, and agile enough to fly up and down the court and play defense and offense almost simultaneously for hours at a time.

While there are many talented individuals currently competing in the league, only the very best make it through to the playoffs each year. These are the players that you can take a look at NBA Championship Odds for to make your bets or to understand more about the playoffs.

If you want to understand more, you should begin looking at the top scorers in the whole of post-season history. Here are the top 5 all-time playoff scorers in NBA history.

1. LeBron James - 7,631 Points
Way out in front of the other names on this list, LeBron James is truly a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the playoffs! He is considered one of the greatest athletes in Cleveland sports history, and for good reason.

He passed Jordan in his 212th game during the Eastern Conference Finals in 2017, pushing him to the top spot straight away.

As a result, James has scored 7,631 points in the postseason so far. That is 1,644 additional points than the player with the second highest amount of points, Michael Jordan.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers small forward is rapidly approaching 8,000 total playoff points across 15 seasons (so far) and 266 games, so this number could drastically change!

2. Michael Jordan - 5,987 Points
Widely thought of as the best basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan has the second highest amount of playoff points out of the players on this list. He also has the third-least number of playoff games played, which are pretty impressive statistics either way.

As one of the greatest NBA players in recent history, Michael Jordan made all of his playoff appearances with the Chicago Bulls. In addition to this, he also holds the record for the most points ever scored in a single playoff game, with a total of 63.

In 179 appearances spanning 13 seasons, Jordan was just 13 points away from scoring 6,000 points in the post-season!

3. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 5,762 Points
Renowned as one of the league's best centers of all time, Abdul-Jabbar is one of the top billed names in the NBA. Not only is he the lead scorer in terms of the NBA regular season history by scoring 5,762 points in the playoffs, but he also scored an additional 38,000 scoring points!

His contributions to the NBA playoffs were a key component of the Showtime era in Lakers basketball.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar won six championships with the Milwaukee Bucks, including the first-ever in franchise history. And, after playing in 18 campaigns throughout his 20-year NBA career, he also played in 237 games and completed 2,356 out of his 4,422 shots.

It's safe to say that this player has rightfully earned his place on this list!

4. Kobe Bryant - 5,640 Points
Even now, Kobe Bryant tops the charts in terms of playoffs for the Los Angeles Lakers franchise.

Kobe Bryant took the second-most number of shots in all of NBA playoffs history. As a result, he made 2,014 out of his 4,499 field goals that were attempted. He also scored a total of 5,640 points over a series of 220 games.

He won five NBA Championships (2000, 2001, 2002, 2009, and 2010) and two separate NBA Finals MVP Awards in 2009 and 2010 with the Lakers.

Kobe Bryant scored his highest amount of points in a playoff game during Game 6 of the 2006 First Round versus the Suns. He scored an impressive 50 points at this time.

5. Shaquille O'Neal – 5,250 Points
Shaq is one of the most dominant NBA players of all time and he's had a very impressive career. During his 19 seasons in the competition, he managed to make the playoffs a total of 17 times, managing to win four championships.

He guided Orlando Magic to their first-ever playoffs in addition to their first finals. O'Neal managed to win three of his titles with the Lakers and then won another with the Miami Heat. He was also one of the most explosive centers in NBA history and dominated the court with his fearlessness and talent.

He scored 5,250 points across 216 games in the playoffs, in a total of 17 seasons.

These are currently the top 5 all-time playoff scorers in the history of the NBA. You may recognize some (if not all) of the names on this list due to their incredible playing abilities, and the lasting legacy they have left in the basketball world.

However, there is potential for these statistics to change over time. With the NBA expanding drastically year upon year, there's no doubt that more players will soon begin to set their own records, meaning current ones may soon be broken!
