The Duffy Florals won the MBC first championship but did so with a bit of controversy. Detroit and Chicago had finished with the same record, but Chicago had not played the league mandated 12 league games. Yet, league owners took Chicago over Detroit and the Florals would go on to defeat Akron and Indianapolis for the championship.

In 1937 when the MBC reorganized into the NBL, no Chicago team was admitted.

Like many teams of the era, the Duffy Florals played a lot of exhibition or barnstorming games. One such game occurred on March 13, 1935, vs the Cicero Merchants. The Merchants beat the Duffy Florals 41-26. The Merchants were lead by the Kolar brothers, who would eventually play for the Duffy Florals and help them win their 1936 championship.

This is an interesting news clip form most likely the Chicago Tribune. It mentioned Dubuque, which is a university in Iowa. However, at the time, 1920s-30, Dubuque did not have an athletics program of any sort. Also, the University of Dubuque is the Spartans and not the Cardinals. While it was not uncommon for semi-pro teams to play colleges, this article hints that games are being played in the summer. This is likely not the Dubuque from Iowa and likely another team. It is also unknown what year this article is from.
